So ridiculous

Publishers Weekly has posted an update on the decision by the South Carolina House of Representatives to cut the College of Charleston's funding by $52,000 and University of South Carolina-Upstate's funding by $17,142—the amount the two universities spent on books assigned to their incoming freshmen last summer. (In case you missed it, both schools included books focusing on gay/lesbian/bisexual issues on their required reading lists, which has sent South Carolina Republicans into an emotional tailspin, because... uh... they think reading about homosexuality is too much for the tiny, impressionable brains of college freshmen?) State Democrats attempted to push through a series of amendments that would restore funding to the programs, but the Republican majority voted to keep the cuts. The ACLU is now involved, and a vote on the budget by the senate as a whole will occur in early April.
