According to Publishers Weekly, Delacorte Press recently announced it has purchased the rights to 17-year-old Beth Reekles's debut novel The Kissing Booth, which has apparently been selling like hotcakes on the self-publishing site Wattpad. The book "centers on a never-been-kissed teenager who comes face-to-face with her secret crush while running a kissing booth for her school carnival". Sounds... sweet, I guess. As with any young author, I wonder how much of a role Reekles's age played in her book contract (the publishing world loves a child author), but here's hoping her book will be worth the hype. Regardless, The Kissing Booth will be available as a trade paperback on May 14, and Reekles has already signed up to write a sequel and an additional (but seemingly unconnected) novel.
