According to the Guardian, nearly two-thirds of parents don't read to their babies, thereby missing out on a "crucial window" for the children's language development.
A British survey of more than 500 people found that 64% of parents were not reading with their babies at seven months, and 57% did not own a single book until they received their package of free books from Booktrust's "Bookstart" program, which gives away free books to almost 3 million children a year in the UK.
