Fantasy/sci-fi writer Steven Brust is best known for his Vlad Taltos novels, a series of books about a human assassin living in a world controlled by elf-like creatures known as Dragaerans. While I’m doubtful that his novels will appeal to non-fantasy/sci-fi fans, Brust is a gifted storyteller who frequently adds mystery and detective story elements to his books and has a knack for creating unique voices for his characters.
Note: Brust was in the same writing group as
Patricia C. Wrede, and, like Wrede, wrote a novel using the Letter Game. (1997’s
Freedom and Necessity, with Emma Bull.)
Aftertaste:Brust has mentioned that he’s “always had good luck with [his] cover art”. To which we can only rely that... er, we do not agree.
