Jim Butcher is the author of
The Dresden Files novels, a series about Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden, a wizard-slash-P.I. who’s doing his best to save the people of Chicago from various supernatural evils. (Not that the people of Chicago are particularly grateful, seeing as most of them don’t believe in magic.) Dresden is a classic pulp fiction hero: unlucky in love, squeaking by financially, and rich in enemies. Butcher just added a few twists (vampires, fairies, a lecherous talking skull named Bob). These books are heady stuff—imagine the
Anita Blake novels without the ridiculous sex scenes (if you can wrap your head around that kind of impossibility), or the
Garret P.I. series set in a more familiar world.
Note:
The Dresden Files has been made into a TV pilot for the Sci-Fi channel.
Aftertaste:None. But then I haven't seen the movie yet.
Availability:Everywhere.
Other Recommendations:The
Anita Blake series (until it starts getting stupid)
Glen Cook's
Garret P.I series
