Ben Edlund is the artist and writer of the cult favorite comic series
The Tick. Edlund’s characters include the Tick himself, a seven-foot-tall, 300-pound, well-meaning dimwit in a blue costume who screams “SPPPOOONNN!!!” as a battle cry, his sidekick, Arthur, an unhappy accountant in a moth suit, and assorted fellow superheroes, super villains, and ninjas disguised as hedges. Although Edlund only personally produced twelve issues of
The Tick, he continued to be involved with the story in its other incarnations, including a three-year-long stint as a Fox Kids’ cartoon and, eventually, a live action show. (The live action version only lasted 8 episodes—Edlund has a good record of quality. Not so much quantity.)
Note: Edlund has worked extensively with
Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s Joss Whedon.
Aftertaste:Did I mention that it took him FIVE YEARS to produce those twelve issues?
Availability:Limited. Very limited.
