Next up: Hercule Poirot, pre-mustache?

Possibly because the BBC's modernized Sherlock Homes, Sherlock, was quite a success and Disney Co. likes success.

Unfortunately -- not to lack faith in a company that used to produce movies that I loved -- I doubt that this endeavor shall be quite so clever and engaging. I hope to be proven wrong.

I was immediately left wondering if/how they'd create a romantic storyline out of whole cloth--I can't imagine Hollywood signing off on a female-oriented script without one, you know?

I assume that Miss Marple is so young because the producers plan for lots of romantic and sexual tension in the story and figure that their intended audiences would prefer that with a younger woman, not a senior citizen. There shall probably be a lot more action than one would expect from a Miss Marple story, too.

Overall, I bet that the film shall use some names, a few other details, a casual glance from an Agathie Christie story plot, and the rest will come from elsewhere.

Now, I like retellings... when they are good. I adore Oliver & Co. (Disney's version of Oliver Twist) and think that Disney's version of Sleeping Beauty is wonderful. However, I anticipate this endeavor to be more along the lines of The Princess & The Frog. As I noted before, I hope to be proven wrong, but am not going to bet the cost of a movie ticket and the time it takes to watch it. :-P

Yeah, at $11.50 (and counting!) per ticket at my local multiplex, I'm getting awfully choosy about the movies I see, too. Even decent-ish looking movies are striking me as too much of a risk...
