This is a couple of months old, but the Smithsonian recently published an article about the (possibly fictional?) electric chair carnival act that inspired Ray Bradbury's Something Wicked This Way Comes. Thanks to a fourth grade teacher with extremely poor judgment and a personal VCR setup in her classroom, I watched the movie adaptation of Something Wicked when I was nine, and let me tell you: the memory lingered. I'm still creeped out by carnivals, even decades later, and even the pictures in this article gave me the heebie-jeebies.
