And speaking of Jane Austen, Lifetime has made a movie called Pride & Prejudice: Atlanta, which will air on June 1st. It's a contemporary retelling featuring an African-American cast, and I'm definitely checking it out, but I can't let go of my one bone-deep Pride and Prejudice caveat: it is basically impossible to fully translate this novel to the modern era, because giving the Bennet sisters the ability to respectably support themselves fundamentally alters the entire story arc. You can take the basic themes of almost any other Austen novel and apply them to a contemporary setting, but the Bennet family's exact financial situation is 100% critical to the story.
