Right show, wrong network

The New York Times recently took a look at the unexpected success of Netflix's You, based upon Caroline Kepnes's novel of the same name. I keep hearing the show described as a "Netflix Original" (it's right there on the cover!), but that must not mean what it sounds like, because the show actually originally aired on Lifetime, where it was a dismal failure. I guess the crossover market for Princess-y Christmas movies and stalker noir is not as large as one would think?
