According to the Guardian, a long-lost novel by Walt Whitman was recently discovered in the archives of a Victorian New York Sunday newspaper. Described as a "rollicking anti-lawyer revenge fantasy", The Life and Adventures of Jack Engle was published anonymously. (Researchers have connected it to Whitman through a detailed synopsis found in the poet's notebooks.) The story is now available for free online via the Walt Whitman Quarterly Review.
