The Guardian posted an article about British booksellers' attempt to create yet another shopping holiday: "Civilized Saturday", a day designed as the “perfect antidote” to the crazed bargain-hunting of Black Friday. I'm not sold on the idea of yet another shopping-based event, but I do approve of the stores' planned activities, which include booze, snacks, and read-a-longs. The only store that confuses me is Southcart Books, which apparently wants to devote the day to celebrating H.P. Lovecraft. Is that really the best choice to put shoppers in a holiday mood?
