There's a demand for this?

Yesterday THR reported that Netflix is planning to adapt Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events into a TV show. I'm a little taken aback, seeing as the 2004 movie adaptation of this series didn't make enough money to justify a franchise. Plus, while the books were a huge success about a decade ago, their popularity seemed to die off quickly and completely. I have no idea how many copies have sold recently, but I can tell you that I worked in a school library for several years. When I started in 2009, we had three full sets of A Series of Unfortunate Events. By the time I left in 2013, we'd removed all but a single set—and I don't think we'd checked out any copies in more than a year. But who knows? Maybe the series is due for a renaissance.
