According to The Daily Beast, fragments of two previously unknown poems by the ancient Greek poet Sappho were recently discovered. The private owner of a 3rd century A.D. papyrus consulted Oxford classicist and "world-renowned papyrologist" Dr. Dirk Obbink about the Greek writing on his papyrus scraps. Dr. Obbink has the owner's permission to publish his translation of the poem fragments in a literary journal this spring, but a version has already appeared online. This discovery brings the grand total of Sappho's known works up to seven—despite her fame, only one complete poem and six fragments of her work have been found.
