Cash for fanfiction?

HOLY CATS: Amazon is launching a licensing and publishing program for fanfiction! According to Publishers Weekly, Amazon has already set up licensing agreements with various popular properties (such as L.J Smith’s Vampire Diaries, which has inspired more than 25,000 stories on FanFiction.net to date), and their "Kindle Worlds" program will enable fanfic writers to both publish and sell their work. Royalties will be split between Amazon, the fanfic author, and the creator of the original work. The fine print makes it clear that this is mostly a sweet deal for Amazon (no surprise there), but it might be a way for fanfic writers to make a little cash for their work in ways that doesn't involve turning Twilight fanfiction into original (but equally terrible) literature.
