According to Tech News Daily, a physicist and author is attempting to use his science fiction writing to raise money to build laser weapons capable of knocking out guided missiles with electronics-disabling electromagnetic pulses. Adam Weigold, author of the upcoming novel Dragon Empire, is hoping his book (about using said laser weapons in a future war between the U.S. and China) will prove entertaining enough to convince readers to donate $20,000 to his Kickstarter fund. The money would go towards having the book professionally edited and marketed, allowing it to contribute to Weigold's overarching goal: raising $2 million over the next few years to fund large-scale laser experiments.
