Girls Gone Victorian

Whoa: this is the first time I've seen someone market a romance novel (from Katie MacAlister, one of Meg's favorite authors) as "steampunk". New literary sub-genre, or just a marketing gimmick? Only time will tell...

A fairy tale themed blog that I follow (I forgot which one, but it was a good post) recently featured an essay about how popular it currently is to mix fairy tales with steampunk.

So, probably a gimmick that is going to turn into a genre.

Well, I thought it made a refreshing change from the "Me and my hunky vampire/werewolf/fae" genre, but it still felt weirdly calculated. Like she was writing something that she'd identified as an Emerging Market.

I haven't read it, but I expect I will eventually. Probably shouldn't judge it 'til then, should I?
