H. G. Wells

H. G. Wells was the author of numerous science fiction masterpieces, including The War of the Worlds, The Island of Dr. Moreau, and The Time Machine. Although a pacifist, Wells enjoyed war games and invented what is now considered to be the first tabletop war game, based on his book Little Wars. Although a political idealist, Wells rapidly grew disillusioned with every political ideology he ever espoused, and died bitterly convinced that mankind's prospects were bleak. Although he described himself as “no great amorist”, he left his first wife for one of his students, and proceeded to be unfaithful to his second with numerous high-profile affairs (including liaisons with Rebecca West, Margaret Sanger, and Elizabeth Von Armin).

Aftertaste:
Well, the full title of Little Wars is Little Wars: a game for boys from twelve years of age to one hundred and fifty and for that more intelligent sort of girl who likes boys' games and books.
