Diane Duane

Diane Duane is the author of the Young Wizards books, a series that has been in print for more than twenty years and, like most YA fantasy, has recently seen a Harry Potter-inspired upsurge in sales. The Young Wizards books are obviously aimed at pre- to early-teen readers, but the deftly drawn characters and Duane’s vision of an alternate Manhattan will ensure that fantasy lovers of any age will find this series appealing.

Note: Unlike many fantasy authors, who regard fanfiction writers with a jealous and paranoid eye, Diane Duane (obviously a very secure, sensible person) has gone so far as to sponsor fanfiction contests for her work.
