Susan Juby is the author of
Alice, I Think and its sequel,
Miss Smithers, a hilarious and deeply bizarre series of teen books about a young Canadian misanthrope with ten less-than-successful years of home schooling under her belt, weekly sessions at the Teens in Transition (Not in Trouble) Club, and a life goals list that includes both #1: Decide on a unique and innovative career path, and #5: Publish paper comparing teenagers and chicken peer groups.
Note #1: Ms. Juby has mentioned
Stella Gibbons's Cold Comfort Farm as one of her inspirations, and you can certainly see it in her work. I, for one, would totally buy the idea that Alice has Starkadder blood running through her veins.
Note #2: There will another Alice book out in May:
Alice MacCleod, Realist At Last. Lookin' forward to it.
Note #3: If you'd like to admire the pretty flowers on Ms. Juby's website, sign up for her mailing list, or read her blog, click

These books are sort of like what the "Red Green" show would be like if it was hosted by a teenaged female version of Harold. And that's high praise.
