John Mortimer

John Mortimer is the author of the Horace Rumpole novels, short stories, and plays. Mortimer's Rumpole is a cheerful, obese barrister with a passionate love for cheap wine (Pommeroy's Very Ordinary and Chateau Thames Embankment are favorite labels) and a wife whom he refers to as She Who Must Be Obeyed. The actual mysteries in these stories are unremarkable, but if you’re in the mood for some easy whodunits with a lot of Wodehouse-style character-driven humor, Mortimer’s books are always entertaining.
